Whether you are a complete beginner looking for some friendly, expert casting tuition and advice on tackle, or a more experienced angler wishing to add an extra few yards to your cast, Fly Fishing 4 You will address your particular needs.
We offer coaching which may be provided in many forms for individuals or small groups in addition to guiding and or corporate days. We will be pleased to discuss your requirements to enable us to develop a tailored session to meet your specific needs.

Fly Fishing for Beginners

We offer ‘Beginners Courses’ for those wishing to experience the joys of fly fishing.  These specially tailored half day courses shorten the learning curve and give the pupil the confidence and technical / practical knowledge to safely and competently go fishing.

We provide all equipment (rods, reels, lines, consumables) with lessons being undertaken on small lakes suitable for beginners. Clients are welcome to bring their own equipment.  We will evaluate and advise on future requirements.

Subjects covered

  • Health and Safety Considerations
  • Countryside Code
  • Clothing
  • Tackle Selection
  • Set up of reel / line / rod / leader/
  • Roll Cast
  • Overhead Cast
  • Trout’s Larder
  • Flies
  • What flies to use - how and when to use them.
  • Mechanics of playing a fish to the net
  • How to net a fish
  • How to humanely kill the fish or safely release the fish if the venues rules allow catch and release.

For the absolute beginner, individual tuition is recommended.  We can tailor this to suit each individual’s needs and budget. Tuition will include health & safety considerations, tackle requirements and selection, roll cast and overhead cast, basic retrieves, playing, landing and humane despatch  (or safe release) of trout plus provision of all tackle required for the session.  All participants must wear safety glasses and suitable headgear (baseball style hat is ideal) which we can provide on request.

Fly Casting Lessons
For the individual who has tried their hand at fly fishing or for the more experienced fly fisher who wishes to improve their casting we can provide a course tailored to suit each individuals requirements.  Sessions from one hour duration to a complete day course to trouble shoot faults or to develop advanced techniques, such as single and double hauling and casting efficiently into a head wind. Existing casting faults will be identified, analysed and can be easily diagnosed and rectified.  At the end of the course we will expect the pupil to efficiently execute the following:

Roll Cast (including shooting line)

  • Overhead Cast
  • Single and double haul
  • Safely dealing with wind
  • Changing direction whilst casting
  • Mending and presentation casts
  • Reach cast and slack line cast
  • Spey casting with a single handed rod
  • Distance techniques.

    Corporate & Special Occasions

We also work with a team of dedicated qualified fly fishing coaches and can provide inclusive day or half day experiences for corporate groups or private parties for up to thirty persons.  All tackle can be supplied and all levels of experience catered for. All participants must wear safety glasses and suitable headgear (baseball style hat is ideal) which we can provide on request.
